How much does a website cost in the UK?
Website pricing in the UK is deliberately vague. Most studios will not publish a number, which leaves you comparing a £199 template offer against a £15,000 proposal with no idea what separates them. This guide gives you the real bands for 2026, what sits inside each one, and the factors that genuinely move a quote.
We publish our own prices, so we will use them as reference points rather than inventing industry averages.
The five UK price bands in 2026
| Budget | What you get | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| £0 to £300 | A DIY template on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify, set up by you. Design is the theme, not a decision. | A weekend |
| £500 to £1,000 | A single page professional build. Focused message, one call to action, live fast. Our Website in a Day sits here at £500. | 1 to 5 days |
| £2,000 to £3,500 | A multi page marketing site with a custom design system, structured copy and launch support. Our Launch Pack is £2,500. | 3 to 5 weeks |
| £4,000 to £8,000 | Brand identity plus website. Logo, type, colour, guidelines and a custom build. Our Brand and Digital Kit is £6,000. | 6 to 10 weeks |
| £10,000 and up | Ecommerce at scale, booking systems, memberships, integrations, or a site with dozens of templates and ongoing iteration. | 3 months plus |
If a quote sits far below its band, something has been removed. Usually it is strategy, copy direction, or the revision rounds.
What actually drives the price
1. Number of unique page templates
Not pages, templates. Fifty blog posts share one template and cost almost nothing extra. Five pages that each need their own layout cost five times the design work. When you brief a studio, count the layouts you need rather than the pages.
2. Whether the copy exists
The single biggest hidden cost in web projects is waiting on content. If you arrive with finished copy, a build moves quickly. If the studio has to shape your messaging, that is strategy work and it is priced as such.
3. Brand maturity
A clear logo, palette and type system means the designer starts from a foundation. No brand means the site becomes a branding project with a website attached, which is a different scope entirely.
4. Functionality beyond content
- Payments, carts and product variants
- Bookings, calendars and availability logic
- Logins, accounts and gated content
- CRM, email or accounting integrations
Each of these is software, not design. A single one can add more to a quote than the rest of the site combined.
5. Revisions and decision makers
Two rounds with one decision maker is fast. Unlimited rounds with a committee is the most expensive way to build anything. Fixed price studios cap revisions for exactly this reason.
Where the money is usually wasted
- Paying for pages nobody reads. Most small business sites need four or five, not fifteen.
- Buying a custom build before the offer is proven. A one page site validates faster and costs less.
- Redesigning every 18 months because the first site had no structure to grow into.
- Paying a retainer for changes you could make yourself in a well built editor.
Fixed price or day rate?
UK day rates for experienced web designers sit roughly between £350 and £700. That is useful to know, but a day rate transfers all the risk of an over run onto you. Fixed price puts it on the studio, which is why we quote that way. You should know the number before work starts.
What we would recommend by situation
| Your situation | Sensible spend |
|---|---|
| Testing a new service or offer | £500 single page build |
| Established business with steady enquiries | £2,500 multi page site |
| New brand launching properly | £6,000 brand and site together |
| Selling products online | £3,000 plus depending on catalogue |
The honest answer to how much a website costs is that it depends on how much of the thinking is already done. The more you bring, the less you spend.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Is this a fixed price or an estimate?
- How many unique page layouts are included?
- How many revision rounds, and what counts as one?
- Who writes the copy?
- What happens after launch, and what does a change cost?
- Do I own the site and the domain outright?
Any studio worth hiring will answer all six without hesitating.
